In a steadfast commitment to supporting caregivers who play a crucial role in the lives of children raised in placements away from their families, Catholic Charities hosted the second annual Caregivers Appreciation event in Gulfport, Mississippi. LaQuita Brown, the Kinship Navigator Program Coordinator at Catholic Charities, highlighted the organization's dedication to providing essential resources and information to caregivers, aiming to keep children within the familial support system and prevent their entry into foster care.
The event, held at the Orange Grove Community Center on July 22 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., served as a tangible expression of gratitude and support for caregivers. Recognizing the significant challenges they face, the Caregivers Appreciation event offered an array of services, including access to information, resources, food, games, clothing, school supplies, and non-perishable food items.
LaQuita Brown emphasized the importance of acknowledging the efforts of caregivers and creating a space where they could come together for food, fun, and support. The event aimed not only to celebrate the resilience of caregivers but also to address any economic or financial struggles they might encounter in their role.
To be eligible for participation, individuals must serve as the sole caregiver for a child up to age 18. Those who meet this criteria are encouraged to contact the Catholic Charities Kinship Navigator Program at 769-218-8436 for an intake assessment, ensuring that the program can effectively cater to the specific needs of caregivers and the children under their care. The Caregivers Appreciation event reflects Catholic Charities' ongoing commitment to fostering community, providing support, and recognizing the invaluable contributions of caregivers in shaping the lives of children.
